In the weeks that came before the District Meet, our coach (THE Adrian Shipley, who, might I add, won coach of the year) began giving us workouts specific to what the course was like. Distances were shortened and there was an increase of pace on our runs to work on speed. We came onto the course prepared. Both the boys and girls won 8-0 in the league duals leading up to districts. The girls varsity team placed 2nd and all received honorable mention. Although we were hoping for 1st, we only lost by 3 points, even with a 20 point unexpected swing from the rivaling team. Raychel Hinkey won the JV race. We have been working hard all season and I’m incredibly proud of our Viking girls. The varsity boys placed 3rd, with an individual win from Quincy Norman. The rest of the guys pushed themselves hard and battled to earn the place. We had a lot of PRs (personal records) that race, and at state 4 more people got lifetime-PRs, even though the course was rather hilly. There was a huge improvement across the board from the start of the season to the very end. This was a really fun, supportive team to be a part of, and I encourage anyone to join next season. The team will be losing some beloved seniors, so new members would be very welcome. We hold summer practices to prepare for the upcoming season, and some members train during the winter as well (especially if they also participate in track, which most do). We hope to see you there! Congratulations on an amazing season to the athletes who ran XC this year.
